Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Petroleum Geosciences, Abu Dhabi

MASTER OF SCIENCE (PART TIME) PROGRAM

The Petroleum Institute offers a Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Petroleum Geosciences. The Master of Science (Part time) Program is tailored for those working in the industry wishing to improve their skills and for geosciences graduates interested in a careers in the petroleum industry. The program is designed to give students a rigorous education and specific training in geosciences applications in the oil and gas industries.

The Program will offer late afternoon and evening classes as well as a web-based e-learning system to meet the working schedule of the applicants.

Who can apply?

The admission to the M.Sc. Program is open to all qualified UAE nationals and selected non-nationals. However, employees of ADNOC and its group of companies will receive preference for admission. Some of the general criteria to be met by the applicants are:

•Minimum GPA of 3.00 from a reputable B.Sc.Program
•Certified TOEFL score of 550 or above on the paper-based test (PBT); 213 on the computer-based test (CBT); 79 on the internet-based test (IBT) or 6.0 on IELTS
When to apply?

Students wishing to apply for Graduate Studies should submit completed applications by the following dates:

Fall Admission: 01 April
Spring Admission: 01 October

Candidates should submit the following documents within at least two weeks after applying in order for their application to be accepted:

1. Scanned English academic transcript & degree certificate
2. Scanned passport-sized photograph
3. Valid passport copy
4. Valid UAE visa copy
5. TOEFL or IELTS score certificate
- minimum scores required: 550 for TOEFL PBT; 213 for CBT; 79 for IBT; or 6.0 for IELTS

Failure to submit the required application documents within the set two-week period may result in the cancellation of the application.




GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM (MSC & PHD)

The Petroleum Institute (PI) has a Masters Degree program and its strategic five-year plan calls for the launch of the Ph.D. program in AY 2010-2011. In the interim period, qualified students who meet the admission requirements of both the PI and the selected partner institution can do their course work and carry out their doctoral research through a joint program between the PI and the partner institution, with the understanding that the degree will be conferred by the partner institution.

This is a great opportunity for students with high academic credentials who aspire to complete their Ph.D. at world-class universities through joint collaboration with the Petroleum Institute. In all cases, however, the candidate must meet the admission standards of the partner institution to get admitted to their program. Outstanding graduates with excellent academic credentials, who are highly motivated to undertake a challenging and rigorous graduate program of study and research in one of the PI programs, are invited to apply. They will be expected to have at least a B.Sc degree from a well recognized university.

Colorado School of Mines (CSM)
The Colorado School of Mines is a public research university devoted to engineering and applied science. It has the highest admissions standards of any public state university in Colorado. Mines has distinguished itself by developing a curriculum and research program that is geared toward responsible stewardship of the earth and its resources.

Johannes Kepler Universitat Linz
is a public institution of higher education in Linz, the capital of Upper Austria, offering bachelor’s, diploma, master’s, and doctoral degrees in business, engineering, law, science, and the social sciences.

Montan Universitat Leoben
The University of Leoben, in the town of Leoben, is Austria’s university for mining, metallurgy, and materials. It was founded on November 4, 1840, as the Steiermärkisch-Ständische Montanlehranstalt in Styria, Austria’s mining region.

University of Maryland
is a public university located in the city of College Park, in Prince George’s County, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C., in the United States. Founded in 1856, the University of Maryland is the flagship institution of the state of Maryland.

University of Minnesota, Twin Cities
is a public research university located in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, United States. It is the oldest and largest part of the University of Minnesota system and has the fourth largest student body in the United States, with 51,140 students.

Stipend / Benefits:

Exceptionally qualified students can apply for Graduate Fellowships. Stipend will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, with an excellent benefits package, including a twelve-month base stipend, on-campus room and board, medical insurance, and travel funds to attend conferences and stays at the PI’s partner institutions. Applicants must be in excellent health and will be required to pass a pre-award physical examination.
