Perniosis (Chilblains)

Perniosis (Chilblains) is a vasospastic, inflammatory disorder that occurs when the skin of individuals is unprotected and exposed to a nonfreezing, cold and damp environment. Chilblains are often idiopathic in origin but can be manifestations of serious medical conditions that need to be investigated. Chilblains can be prevented by keeping the feet and hands warm in cold weather.





The Symptoms of Perniosis:
1. Erythemateous (violaceous) blisters.
2. Ulcerations or pustules that sit on an edematous base.
3. Painful.
4. Burning or itching.


Treatment:
1. Keep your skin warm using silk or wool.
2. Exposure your skin in the warm water (do not use hot water).
3. Avoid rapid changes in tmeperature.
4. Do some massage around your perniosis area, to facilitate the blood circulation.
5. Avoid tight fitting socks and shoes.
