Applying Online Quiz in The Classroom

Yesterday I tried to apply online quiz inside the class for the first time. Before, I tried it to students outside the classroom, which mean I could not check whether they did it by theirselves or not.

I have 50 students in my class, I divided them into 8 groups. The day before, I told them all to prepare for the quiz. They were not informed that they would do it with group and also did not know that it would be an online quiz. However, I did inform them to sit down next to their friends in a same group.

When I came to the class, they had already in that position with their group. Then I told them to choose a friend whose the account will be used to do the online quiz. So they chose a friend among the group members. They did the quiz together but they were restricted to open the notebooks and other resources. I gave them 20 minutes to do 12 multiple choice questions. After they submitted their quiz, the marks are quiet interesting. It varied between 4.82 to 10. I was happy because some of them (only a group, to be exact) got the maximum point. But in other way, it was also a homework for me to solve the problem of a group of students that got only 4.82 point. If you did it together with your friends, how came you got a low mark?

However, in spite there was an obstacle on the internet connection, applying online quiz in the classroom have some advantages:
1. Students can discuss the problem with their group. In this way, there is a big probability for them to share the informations.
2. They actively participated in the class. I observed that there was no single student doing nothing in the class. All of them involved in the class discussion.

So, that is all about online quiz inside the classroom. Thank you for reading my note :)
